Application Filing Deadline is December 31
Wilkes-Barre, December 23, 2015 – State Sen. John Yudichak today reminded men and women interested in State Police careers that they have until December 31 to apply.
“The Pennsylvania State Police is a great organization with a standard of excellence that has stretched over a century,” Yudichak said.
Yudichak said interested people can find information on a state police career, obtain an application and apply on-line at www.patrooper.com. He said that those who make it past the application stage will be asked to take a written examination in February.
Following the written examination, successful candidates take an oral examination. A trooper candidate’s final overall score is based on both the written and oral examinations. Those who successfully emerge from the examination process must still pass a physical fitness test, polygraph test, background investigation and medical and psychological evaluations before being appointed as a cadet.
Cadets must also complete an intense 27-week training course at the department’s academy in Hershey before they become troopers.
To apply, applicants must:
- Be at least 20-years-old when they apply; and be between 21 and 40 by the date they become a state police cadet.
- Have a high school diploma or a GED certificate, plus an associate’s degree or 60 semester credit hours at an accredited institution of higher education at the time of application. Certain waivers to the education requirement are available.
