Nanticoke, May 3, 2019 – Senator John Yudichak (D – Luzerne/Carbon) issued the following statement after Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced the arrests of six individuals yesterday for operating a major fentanyl distribution organization in Hazleton, Pennsylvania:
“Attorney General Josh Shapiro and his agencies, including the Strategic Response Team, have been steadfast in working with county and city law enforcement agencies across northeastern Pennsylvania to help eradicate the heroin and opioid epidemic. We must continue to all work together to create safer communities for our citizens.”
In 2013-2014, Senator Yudichak helped lead an effort to secure $2.5 million in state funding for the Office of the Attorney General to implement the Mobile Street Crimes Unit. As part of the 2018-19 budget, the Mobile Street Crimes Unit transitioned into the Strategic Response Team to assist the Commonwealth with the opioid crisis.
