FloodFlood Centers Close, Aid Still Available

Even though the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC’s) will close today, many forms of assistance and aid are still available to the hundreds of families and businesses affected by September’s record flooding.

If you, or anyone you know, is still recovering from flood damages and have yet to apply for aid, it is imperative that you are aware of the upcoming December deadlines for state and federal flood assistance programs.

Upcoming Flood Assistance Deadlines:

  • Local Programs with Open Enrollment
    • The Luzerne County Business Recovery Loan Program: Call Lisa Kenny of Metro Action at 570-342-7711 or 570-341-0270, or apply online at www.metroaction.org.  Loans up to $100,000 are available at 1-percent interest from a $4 million loan fund.
    • The Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance (NEPA) Revolving Loan Fund has two programs available for businesses in Luzerne and Schuylkill Counties.  Both programs have reduced interest rates of 1-percent.  For more information call Dave Nat of NEPA at 570-655-5581.
    • The Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center is offering loans of up to $200,000 at a 2.5 percent interest to manufacturers. For information call 570-819-8966.
  • Deadline December 14
    • Federal Emergency Management Agency: To register, call 1-800-621-3362 or visit www.disasterassistance.gov
    • U.S. Small Business Administration: To register, call the SBA Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955 or apply online at www.disasterloan.sba.gov
    • Keystone Home Energy Loan Program: Call the Keystone HELP Flood Line at 877-282-9448 or apply online at http://www.keystonehelp.com.
  • Deadline December 31
    • Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Storm Relief Grants: Applications and more info is available online at www.dep.state.pa.us or by calling 717-772-8909

While not all homes and businesses along our riverbanks were devastated by September’s flooding, we are all in this recovery effort together.
